I am deeply drawn to the existence of difference.
To things encountering one another.
To coexistence.
To things blending together.
And sometimes, to things remaining distinct while existing side by side.
People, materials, cultures, histories, bodies, and spaces.
When things with different backgrounds and qualities enter into a relationship, something new can emerge—something that did not exist before the encounter.
For me, art is a way of exploring these moments in which new relationships come into being.
Calligraphy was the starting point of my practice.
I do not, however, see calligraphy simply as written language or a traditional technique. Within the act of writing are lines, ink, paper, bodily movement, breath, time, and spirituality. Calligraphy is a place where material and body, the visible and the invisible, come into contact.
From there, my practice has gradually expanded beyond calligraphy.
I explore the embodied knowledge found in Noh and the tea ceremony, movements of the human body across different cultures, engineering and technology, materials such as charcoal, paper, stone, and metal, memories embedded in places, the words of people, rituals, and the relationship between human beings and space.
Rather than treating these as separate fields, I seek to bring them into relation with one another—to allow different forms of knowledge, materials, cultures, and experiences to encounter one another and generate new possibilities.
I call this ongoing practice Ayelu (和える).
Ayelu does not mean bringing everything into one.
It does not mean erasing differences.
It is the possibility of different things existing together while retaining their distinct identities—encountering one another, sometimes blending, and generating something new through their relationship.
Through art, I explore what becomes possible when differences remain, coexist, encounter one another, and create new relationships.

私は、異なるものが存在することに強く惹かれています。
異なるものが出会うこと。
共存すること。
混ざり合うこと。
あるいは、混ざり合わず、それぞれの違いを保ったまま隣り合うこと。
人、物質、文化、歴史、身体、空間。
それぞれが異なる背景や性質を持ちながら関係し合うとき、そこには、それまで存在しなかった新しい価値や意味が生まれることがあります。
私にとって芸術とは、そのような「関係性が生まれる瞬間」を探究する行為です。
書は、私の制作の出発点でした。
しかし、私は書を単なる文字や伝統的な技法として捉えていません。線、墨、紙、身体の動き、呼吸、時間、精神性。書を書くという行為の中には、物質と身体、目に見えるものと見えないものが交わる多くの要素が存在しています。
そこから私は、書の外側へと関心を広げてきました。
能や茶道に宿る身体性。
異なる文化における身体の動き。
工学やテクノロジー。
炭や紙、石、金属などの物質。
土地に残された記憶や、人々の言葉。
祈りや儀式。
そして、人間と空間との関係。
これらを異なる領域として分けるのではなく、互いに出会わせることで、これまでとは異なる表現や関係性を生み出していきたいと考えています。
その実践を、私は Ayelu（和える） と呼んでいます。
「和える」とは、すべてを一つにすることではありません。
違いを消すことでもありません。
異なるものが、それぞれの存在を保ちながら共に在り、出会い、ときに混ざり合い、その関係の中から新しいものが生まれていくこと。
私は、芸術を通してその可能性を探究しています。
